For the coda of her ambitious long-player ‘L’eau et les rêves,’ Montreal artist N NAO (Klô Pelgag, LUMIÈRE, Laurence-Anne) takes us to the brink of collapse, where awaits an avant-garde pop piece instinctively meshing experimental folk flair, synthetic elements and exhilarating rhythms. Celebrating friendship before the event horizon, “Fin du monde” prints a tactile dream deep into the record’s final grooves, opening up a brand new realm of possibility.
“This song depicts the sensation of touching someone in a dream, as well as the extreme softness and the sublime emotion it can provide. The end of the world analogy refers to feeling the need to hold someone tight just prior to everything falling apart. It was again a powerful night at the studio with my bandmates and best friends, with whom I would prefer to be if it was the end of the world.” – Naomie de Lorimier
On this new opus entitled ‘L’eau et les rêves,’ N NAO employs creative methods ranging from seemingly infinite effects chains to field recording, while also nestling in acoustic instruments, in creating dream pop that is carnal and lush, evocative and multifaceted. Lyrics about dreams, romance, nature and healing stream along sinuous banks as the transdisciplinary artist erects both sonic and luminous canvases where to lay her startlingly iridescent musings.
This collection of non-conventional, yet oh-so fluid tracks sees the artist challenge the norm, offer a novel approach to songwriting. As for her vision, it expands from the epicenter of her home studio all the way to the intimate confines of Studios Green Room (Montréal, QC), where her musical pieces are immortalized alongside accomplices; co-producer Jean-Bruno Pinard, as well as musicians Charles Marsolais-Ricard (the first collaborator to join the project), Samuel Gougoux (TDA, Corridor, Kee Avil, VICTIME), Lysandre Ménard (Lysandre, Helena Deland) and Étienne Dupré (Duu, zouz, Klô Pelgag).
Inspired by sound as a medium, rituals, nature, ecology, the subconscious and dreams, not to forget water, this new album will be released on March 24th, 2023 via Mothland.
