‘Moon Rabbit’ by Ben Copperhead | New Album, ‘Wailing Viridescence’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Moon Rabbit’ by Ben Copperhead, taken from the upcoming album, ‘Wailing Viridescence,’ out April 28th, 2023 via Shimmy-Disc.
‘Wailing Viridescence’ is a 10-track album of sci-fi/psych-folk songs and instrumentals written by NYC-based multi-instrumentalist Ben Copperhead. Introduced by standout singles ‘Copperhead Vagabond’ and ‘Franny and the Songbirds,’ the album was mainly recorded on a 4-track tape machine and features his exuberant Stringed Serpents: Jessica Pavone on viola, Tom Swafford on violin, and Brent Arnold on cello, who co-produced the string sessions with Grammy-nominated engineer, Mike Tarantino. The album was mastered by Kramer, who also hand-picked a few of Copperhead’s past favorite recordings for the record.

To celebrate the record’s release today, Ben Copperhead additionally shares brand new music video for the LP focus track, ‘Moon Rabbit’. The video features a paper cutout stop-motion created by Ben Copperhead himself that acts as an almost sequel to “Lunar X/Y” on his Serpent and the Sparrow album from 2017.
‘Moon Rabbit,’ the track, is described as an electronic fueled satire on human space travel. Inspired by the mythological figure from East Asia and Indigenous American folklore, the song tells the story of a trickster rabbit with magical powers who inhabits the moon. Deep-space banjo and cello orbit tape-echo drum machine loops and a baritone guitar, a mashing of traditional folk instruments with electronics that exemplify Copperhead’s signature sound.
