Exclusive album premiere of ‘Disincarnazione’ by Lorenzo Abattoir, out June 30th, 2023 via Flag Day Recordings.

‘Disincarnazione’ is a religious term that refers to the loss of one’s bodily nature, attaining an incorporeal state of being. This work goes in the opposite direction, analyzing a range of sounds produced by the human body, focusing on its aggressive nature, searching for links with the primitive animalistic structures within. All the tracks are composed using various breathing techniques combined with close microphone recordings in order to recreate a raw sound effect based exclusively on amplification, saturation, and the limitations of the microphones’ internal circuit. [The word “animal” is etymologically related to the soul, a living organism characterized by movement].

“One year ago I started to develop a sort of non verbal communication, using my breath as a sound source to establish an internal dialogue with my body in order to produce and record a series of actions. Lorenzo Abattoir is a sound artist based in Torino (IT). A key element of his work is the relationship between spiritual practices and unusual methods of audio processing, mainly focusing on the use of microphones as a medium for the amplification of an act. He explores the boundaries between sound and noise using breathing techniques, bodily sounds and different kinds of amplified objects as instruments to structures his performances
