Carmen Sea releases new EP, ‘Sorry’

Carmen Sea’s second EP, ‘Sorry,’ relates the narrative of a car accident that occurred on May 21, 2022, while the band was heading home from a gig near Tours, France.

At 1 a.m., they hit the road, their driver fell asleep, and the car crashed into a ditch while travelling at 130 km/h on a highway, 45 minutes away from Paris. The car was entirely demolished, but thankfully, everyone survived with only minor injuries.

Living through such a horrific tragedy prompted the band to believe that it was not yet time for them to die. They were hit with a tremendous amount of energy, which they attempted to capture on this record.

The track titles are quite suggestive, implying that the accident and its many stages are being told chronologically. ‘Sorry’ is a very personal record in which they offer themselves out to everyone who will listen. The violin continues to play an important role in Carmen Sea’s music, conveying the emotions and moods of the tunes, particularly through distinct and diverse melodic themes.

They also worked hard on the sounds of their instruments as well as the overall production, with very specific notions of how it should sound. The bass was brought to the forefront of the mixes, and they also tried various ideas on the drums, including heavy saturations.

‘Sorry’ was recorded and mixed at Studio Delta (Pantin, France), by David Cuckier (Flegon, Tinariwen). Because the studio equipment was almost completely analogue, it contributed to the record’s old and organic emotions.
