Sanscreed Kanon | “Zen-funk, post-rock, contemporary jazz” | Album Premiere
Exclusive album premiere of self-titled album by Sanscreed Kanon, out via Ronin Rhythm Records.
The ritual post-rock band Sanscreed Kanon is part of a growing international community of people inspired by Ritual Groove Music and the bands Ronin and Mobile. Like the group Shibui from Boston, which recently released the album ‘Quint’ on Ronin Rhythm Records, Sanscreed Kanon also includes such influences in their own characteristic way. The band was born when Andrei Yurov, Valentín Frolov and Nikolai Kutkovoy decided to create and play music that would embrace such diverse trends as ritual groove, minimalism, experimental funk, jazz and post-rock. The first period of trying and discovering the band’s identity ended with taking in a renowned Moscow-experimental-jazz-scene sax player Anton Ponomarev, who added his unbridled impressionistic energy to Sanscreed Kanon’s creative output. It resulted in the self-released one-track album ‘kanon 27’. The band took its final shape when John Kukaryamba, a multi-instrumentalist percussionist, joined it to amplify the band’s style with otherworldly soundscapes.
Simple and minimalistic and at the same time sophisticated in dramaturgy and metre, Sanscreed Kanon gained its share of recognition among both connoisseurs and average listeners.
