‘Jesus (Tried To Take the Wheel But He Ended Up Insane)’ by Hypnogator
Exclusive track premiere of ‘Jesus (Tried To Take the Wheel But He Ended Up Insane)’ by Hypnogator, out January 26th.
South East London-based band Hypnogator share the explosive new single ‘Jesus (Tried To Take the Wheel But He Ended Up Insane)’, a striking blend of psychedelic-rock and prog. Describing their music as a “journey through the Cosmic Swamp” the bands sprawling garage-rock-come-psychedelic sound. Formed during the end of lockdown, the band blend their influences from old-school Led Zeppelin-esque riffs to contemporary elements of psychedelia, jazz, and funk. The result is a high energy, expressive and intricate sound that has seen the band establish themselves on London’s rock scene playing packed out shows at venues including Camden Assembly and O2 Academy Islington.
Produced by the band’s drummer Liam Gunning (Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Cat Burns, Paris Paloma to name a few), ‘Jesus (Tried To Take the Wheel But He Ended Up Insane)’ is a prime example of their sound – crunchy thick guitar sounds soaked in modulation, tight drums, grounding bass and melodic lead vocals. As the track progresses through its choppy verse the track picks up steam in its double tempo pre-chorus before exploding into the chorus with heavily distorted guitar tones and soaring lead vocals. Introducing a shredding guitar solo in the latter section complete with sweep picking and monstrous runs, the band then close out the track with a fittingly intense final section.
Talking about the track, the band explain: “It’s got themes of mental health, as the main protagonist is loved despite feeling unworthy based on a deep inner ‘evil’. We record every song in bits and bobs here and there, but this one needed a day up in Subfrantic Studios (where we rehearse and where Liam, our drummer, works) to get all the fine details worked out as a team – you can’t beat in-person group listening sessions.”
As Hypnogator invites fans to join them on a voyage through their psychedelic underworld, they showcase not only their brilliant musicianship but their ability to craft infectious soundscapes that capture the energy and excitement of their live shows.
