Stella Burns releases ‘Make a Wish’ | New Album, ‘Long Walks in the Dark’

Stella Burns releases ‘Make a Wish,’ taken from the upcoming album, ‘Long Walks in the Dark,’ out January 26, 2024.

‘Make a Wish’ features Marianna D’Ama on vocals, Laura Loriga on piano and Davide Grotta on Theremin. Gianluca Maria Sorace, also known as Stella Burns, is a multifaceted artist with a wide range of skills. In 2004, he formed the band Hollowblue, with whom he published three albums, and in 2011, he made his official debut as Stella Burns in a small theatre in Paris.

He has since released two albums, one EP dedicated to David Bowie, and a number of singles. His work has received widespread acclaim, including recognition from David Bowie’s official website, a victory at the 3D Hollywood Film Festival, and partnerships with foreign and Italian artists. His distinct and personal approach to music and art has gained him acclaim both at home and abroad, including four stars on Uncut.

‘Make a Wish’ is the album’s third single, and Gianluca had this to say about it: “Song written a few years ago but found its lyrics during my quarantine period in 2020. 59 days of Covid, some of which I spent in the hospital imagining that I would not return home. Upon return, I spent 40 days locked in a room, with my partner leaving food outside my door. 40 absurdly happy days, in which the lyrics of the song quickly took shape, closing with a line that encapsulates the meaning of this experience: “We will not let our lives be lost.”

Musically, it was influenced by a Bowie album (‘Bertolt Brecht Baal,’ with music by Kurt Weill) and was initially imagined as a song sung in a tavern by sailors in the early 1900s. Suggestions that later led to a personal direction. Guests on vocals Marianna D’ama who duets with me, Laura Loriga (of Mimes of Wine) on piano and Davide Grotta on Theremin.”
