‘Pale Blue Dot’ by Joe Ghatt | New Album, ‘Caper’
Exclusive video premiere of ‘Pale Blue Dot’ by Joe Ghatt, from the upcoming album ‘Caper,’ set for release on June 14th via Third Eye Stimuli Records, Echodelick Records, and Six Tonnes de Chair Records.
New Zealand’s Joe Ghatt has just dropped his latest track ‘Pale Blue Dot,’ a sneak peek at his upcoming album ‘Caper’. This vibrant tune kicks off with punchy drums and sharp guitar riffs, paving the way for Joe’s lush, echo-filled vocals. The song then bursts into a groove-heavy crescendo, complete with saxophones and cosmic sound effects, adding a touch of the psychedelic.
The single’s name, ‘Pale Blue Dot,’ nods to Carl Sagan’s famous book and the iconic photograph of Earth from space, a fitting reference for someone like Joe Ghatt, who has experience working in the rocket industry. In the accompanying video, filmed by his partner Courtney Ghatt, the visuals are just as quirky and dynamic, with rapid cuts of Joe performing with various instruments, dancing, and exploring New Zealand’s stunning landscapes.
Recording in his home studio in Auckland back in 2020, Joe collaborated with talented drummer Jonty O’Connor and saxophonist Andres Reboratti, bringing a wider range of sounds and influences to his music. Joe wanted the songs to have space and clarity, ensuring that every element had room to shine, much like our tiny planet against the vastness of the cosmos.
His new album, ‘Caper,’ dives deeper into a range of influences, blending psychedelic surf rock with Afro-Beat, Tropicalia, Bossa Nova, and Peruvian and Latin rhythms. This shift from his debut album, Banana Sludge, showcases Joe Ghatt’s growth and versatility as an artist. The record’s rootsy feel is thanks to Joe’s trusty nylon-string guitar, his first instrument from his teenage years in Spain, and a testament to his journey through different musical landscapes.
Joe Ghatt’s live performances are an experience to behold. His energetic five-piece band breathes new life into his studio recordings, turning them into vibrant, dance-inducing jam sessions. For fans of bands like Babe Rainbow and Levitation Room, or ’60s-era groups like The Byrds and The Seeds, Joe’s music is a nostalgic trip with a contemporary twist. If you haven’t already, mark your calendar for June 14th and get ready for ‘Caper’—it’s going to be a psychedelic ride.
