Lintworm | Interview

Lintworm is a crust punk/power violence metal band hailing from Hasselt, Belgium.

They recently dropped their self-titled debut album, a concise 20-minute release in collaboration with Genet Records.

When did Lintworm start?

We held our inaugural rehearsal in February 2022, with our first live performance taking place in October of the same year.

Where does the band name come from?

Our drummer initially believed he had a tapeworm, known as a “Lintworm” in Dutch. Despite the misdiagnosis, the name stuck.

How did you all come together? Were you schoolmates or classmates?

Three out of four band members studied at PXL Music in Hasselt. The remaining member may join next year. While the band originated in Hasselt, its members hail from various locations in Limburg (Tongeren/Rekem) and Antwerp (Willebroek/Olen). Three of us met at PXL Music, and Mathijs (guitar) didn’t study there but attends school in Hasselt. Fenne (vocals) already knew Mathijs from high school and introduced him to the other members.

In a previous interview, you mentioned that Lintworm plays metal but isn’t part of a metal scene.

Indeed, we’re not strictly tied to the metal scene, though we’ve always been drawn to extreme music across various genres. While we wouldn’t label ourselves as metalheads, we deeply appreciate the intensity metal brings.

Why did you opt for a short album?

Creating a short album wasn’t a conscious decision; we simply wrote some tracks and decided to compile them into a record. Nonetheless, we’re fond of the idea of delivering brief yet powerful bursts of music. Our future albums may vary in length depending on the creative direction we pursue, but ultimately, our goal remains consistent: to produce loud and heavy music, regardless of duration.
