‘Orgone Unicorn’ by Øresund Space Collective | Album Premiere
Exclusive album premiere of ‘Orgone Unicorn’ by Øresund Space Collective, out drops this Friday, July 26th, across 2xCD, 2xLP, and digital formats on Laser’s Edge.
Øresund Space Collective is back with another mammoth release, ‘Orgone Unicorn,’ their debut for The Laser’s Edge Group. This new record sees many familiar faces from ‘Everyone Is Evil’ joining Scott Heller, including Mattias Olsson, Jonathan Segel (yeah, the guy from Camper Van Beethoven), Larry Lush, Martin Weaver, Luis Simões, Hasse Horrigmoe, and KG Westman. The album pulses with mind-bending space odysseys wrapped in a dark, prog-soaked vibe. The instrumentation’s a feast for the ears—guitars, bass, synths, keys, mellotron, and beyond—while the percussion’s a wild ride of drums, gongs, and drum machines.
Recorded at the lush Éstudio Paraíso Nas Nuvens in Central Portugal, ‘Orgone Unicorn’ was engineered by Larry Lush and Dr. Space, mixed and mastered by Segel and Dr. Space, and adorned with cover art by David Graham of Moonboy Art. The 2xLP version packs in five tracks, but the 2xCD and digital versions go the extra mile with two more songs—plus extended cuts—totaling a sprawling two hours and sixteen minutes of music.
On ‘Orgone Unicorn’ you have Mattias Olsson on drums, congas, mellotron, and Poly D; Jonathan Segel handling guitar, slide guitar, violin, and Fender Rhodes; Martin Weaver with Microfreek and Roland drum machines; Luis Simões on gong, guitar, and noise box; Hasse Horrigmoe on bass; Larry Lush with Fender Rhodes and mellotron; KG Westman on sitar, mellotron, and synths; and Dr. Space covering Hammond, Mellotron, Modular Synth, Octave Cat, ARP Odyssey, and Poly D.
Scott Heller states, “We are very proud to have our 32nd studio album coming out this week, featuring musical adventures in the studio in Portugal in Sept 2023. It is five unique tracks on the vinyl (seven on the CD), which demonstrate many sides of the band, from eastern sitar based jams, to krautrock, and our classic space rock sound. Enjoy.”
Since their inception in 2006, Øresund Space Collective, led by Scott Heller (aka Dr. Space), has been a force of nature, based out of Copenhagen, Denmark but with a reach spanning Scandinavia, Portugal, and beyond. They’re a supergroup in the truest sense, with members hailing from various Scandinavian rock outfits. Known for their electrifying live shows that get crowds grooving to their improvised prog jams, they’ve played over a hundred concerts in ten countries.
In their eighteen-year journey, Øresund Space Collective has dropped thirty-two studio albums, twelve live albums, and more. After starting with Sweden’s Transubstans label, they’ve collaborated with numerous labels, eventually launching their own Space Rock Productions for most of their recent releases.
