‘Pajarita’ by José Lobo | New Album, ‘In all good Hope’ Deluxe Edition

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Pajarita’ by José Lobo, taken from his latest album, ‘In all good Hope,’ out now via Paper Bag Records.

Following the successful re-release of Montreal-based singer-songwriter José Lobo’s debut LP ‘In all good Hope,’ José Lobo is sharing the video for track ‘Pajarita.’ ‘In all good Hope’ is a veritable linguistic bouquet (sung in Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English), was re-released to international audiences earlier this year.

“‘Pajarita’ is about a long distance relationship,” Lobo explains. “The lyrics are about the reality I imagined my partner at the time was living, how her mornings were, her walk to work everyday, a time during which I was asleep.”

In the lyrics, Lobo speaks of made up worlds he and his partner created, a place to find one another. The music in this song is mostly stripped down guitar and flute, building to a peak that emulates a “dream state where little birds found each other.”

“I was really protective of this video and decided that I didn’t want anyone else but myself to shoot it,” he continues. “I was visiting Spain this April and decided to make the video while there. A collection of vignettes, sometimes speaking directly to the worlds we created. I had the luck to have Dan Criglez edit the video and advise me in that part of the process and take what was mostly a letter to my relationship into a music video.”

‘In all good Hope’ is a masterclass in intimacy, everything about it exuding a sense of closeness. From the highly personal lyrical themes and sparse, delicate instrumentation, to the singing, which sounds like a friend whispering a secret into your ear, the experience of listening to ‘In all good Hope’ is akin to entering an inner sanctum, or what Lobo aptly refers to as “a reverie of the quotidian.”

Originally hailing from Venezuela, Lobo has spent the better part of the last decade in a somewhat nomadic mode, splitting his time between his current homebase of Montreal, San Francisco’s Mission District, Paris, and also Hamilton, Ontario, where much of the album was recorded.
