‘All I See’ by Nathan Jacques | New Album, ‘Dark Wanderer and the Bounty Heart’

Exclusive video premiere of ‘All I See’ by Nathan Jacques, from the upcoming album ‘Dark Wanderer and the Bounty Heart,’ slated for release on September 26, 2024.

Nathan Jacques paints deeply woven narrative stories in cinematic soundscapes that are undeniably and irresistibly Western. His forthcoming album, ‘Dark Wanderer and the Bounty Heart’ tells the tale of a singing cowboy movie star who travels across dangerous lands in search of his lost love and a chance at redemption. Videos for the album set the stage for the musical journey that star Nathan as a character named Dark Wanderer – a fictional singing-cowboy movie star akin to Gene Autry and Roy Rogers – who is trailed by mysterious figures that haunt his odyssey and force our hero to confront his inner demons and battle those who seek to steal his love and life.

When asked about the today’s premiering video for ‘All I See,’ he replied: “This video acts as the truest representation of my project as a whole and also my personal love letter to Western music and film. Drenched in dark themes but performed with featherweight levity and set against a backdrop of tangible, handmade imagery all straight out of a storybook American imagination. ‘All I See’ is the end of the story and we aimed to make it the most dramatic end possible. I always write with a strong visual image in mind and with this one I felt you could almost peel that image right off the page. My dear friend Chris Macken directed all of the ‘Dark Wanderer and the Bounty Heart’ album videos, and his love of classic cinema combined with his natural sense for comedy helped bring that image to life. Chris’s idea to use a long one-shot to slowly establish the scene and story for Wanderer’s ending is a prime example of just how perfectly his artistry coincided and enhanced the project. The story and lyrics are depressingly bleak but Chris and I strove to harness that old Western charm that can effortlessly tell a dismal tale with tongue firmly lodged in cheek. The deep, dark stuff is much more digestible if dressed colorfully and that’s exactly what we tried to do – just like the great Westerns of old.”

The narrative concept of ‘Dark Wanderer and the Bounty Heart’ follows Nathan’s 2021 debut album, ‘Loud Mind,’ about a singing cowboy movie star who travels across dangerous lands in search of his lost love and a chance at redemption. Nathan released the visual live EP called ‘Live Out West’ in 2021 that further reinforces the harmony of his talent for telling stories through vibrant soundscapes.
