Mayflower Madame Unveil New Single ‘Never Sever’ Ahead of Forthcoming Album
Mayflower Madame’s latest single, ‘Never Sever,’ is available across all digital platforms. This is the third track to be revealed from the Oslo-based band’s eagerly awaited album ‘Insight,’ set for release on November 1st.
Following the success of their earlier singles, ‘A Foretold Ecstasy’ and ‘Paint It All in Blue’—both of which garnered praise and significant airplay on stations like BBC Radio 6—this new release showcases a more direct and dynamic side of the band while retaining their signature post-punk, shoegaze, and psychedelic blend.
‘Never Sever’ captures the band’s brooding sonic textures but with a more pronounced infusion of light and bittersweet melancholy. The track blends rock ‘n roll swagger in the verses with dreamy, ethereal choruses, resulting in one of their most accessible and intricate releases yet. Lyrically, it explores themes of nostalgia and the inescapable pull of unresolved memories.
Over the past several years, Mayflower Madame has cemented their reputation far beyond their native Norway. Since their 2016 debut ‘Observed in a Dream,’ they’ve been celebrated for their atmospheric, cinematic sound, drawing influences from 1980s post-punk and dark romanticism. Their 2020 follow-up, ‘Prepared for a Nightmare,’ further established them as key players in the psych-gaze scene, earning them tours across Europe and North America.
Despite the setbacks of the pandemic, the band returned to touring in 2022, performing in the UK, France, and Eastern Europe. Last year, they released a deluxe edition of ‘Prepared for a Nightmare,’ featuring five bonus tracks, while also writing and recording new material.
‘Insight,’ mixed and mastered by acclaimed Italian producer Maurizio Baggio (The Soft Moon, Boy Harsher), is shaping up to be their most ambitious release yet. The album will be released via Night Cult Records (digital), Up In Her Room (vinyl), and Icy Cold Records (CD).
Mayflower Madame consists of Trond Fagernes (vocals, guitar, bass) and Ola J. Kyrkjeeide (drums). The new single also features synth contributions from Kenneth Eknes.
