‘Sucks To Be You’ & ‘Situation’ (Josefus) by Goldfish Kaseem

Asimov bass player Rodrigo Vaz releases two fantastic tracks under the moniker Goldfish Kaseem.

Rodrigo Vaz, the bottom-end thunder of Asimov—the Portuguese sonic juggernaut—has reemerged from the shadows following his band’s “Out of Service” announcement. With a sneer and a slab of sound so raw it feels like a love letter to the cosmic chaos of heavy psych, he introduces Goldfish Kaseem, his solo project. It’s a gut punch wrapped in fuzz and feedback, a siren call to the lost souls of the heavy underground.

The first shot fired from this secret maelstrom? ‘Sucks To Be You’, a savage, bass-heavy snarl drenched in distortion and rebellion. Only twenty copies—yes, just twenty—have been cut onto lathe vinyl, specially crafted for the die-hard freaks crawling out of their caves to hunt down the last remnants of genuine DIY spirit. This release is paired with a deep cut: a cover of ‘Situation’ by the unsung heavy psych legends, Josefus. The track alone shouts Vaz’s pedigree, paying homage to the grit and grime of Texan heaviness, back when the world was still tripping on acid and guitar strings felt like conduits to another universe.

Rodrigo’s influences are unmistakable: the Tim Cronin-era Monster Magnet, Hawkwind’s early space madness, the swampy protest of Edgar Broughton, and the proto-punk energy of the Pink Fairies. This is heavy psych in its purest form—a rickety bridge between the past and the present, dangerous and unpredictable, drenched in fuzz and feedback with no safe passage in sight.

If you want a piece of this sonic apocalypse, you’ll need to be in Lisbon—more specifically, at the Dois Corvos Craft Brewery in Intendente. This isn’t just any release; it’s happening at a pop-up art exhibit by none other than Carlos Ferreira, Asimov’s guru. His mind-bending visuals will plaster the walls while Goldfish Kaseem’s limited vinyl spins into oblivion.

Eye Am Bunny, the all-around cultural promoter of the Portuguese DJ scene, will be spinning tunes alongside Ferreira himself. This event takes place under the banner of D’Olho, a new cultural collective with zero interest in making things easy for anyone. This is the underground, alive and snarling.

Goldfish Kaseem is here to remind you that some music is too wild to be tamed, too raw for the masses. And maybe—just maybe—it sucks to be you if you miss out.
