Premiere: Pulsars’ ‘Tunnel Song’ Revives a Lost Classic Ahead of Debut Album’s Digital Release

Exclusive video premiere of ‘Tunnel Song’ by Pulsars, from their self-titled debut album. Set to hit streaming platforms for the first time on November 15th.

After decades in the dark, Pulsars are back, bringing their iconic self-titled debut to the digital world on November 15 (Damaged Disco/Tiny Global). They’ve even teased us with ‘Trilogy,’ a new single that revives their synth-driven sound from back in the day. Today we are premiering ‘Tunnel Song,’ another fantastic slice of music from their upcoming album.

A little history for the uninitiated: Pulsars were right there on the brink of stardom in the late ’90s. They’d scored a huge deal, opened for the likes of Oasis and Blur, and had the critics buzzing. But when the Almo Sound and Geffen partnership crumbled, so did their momentum. Rolling Stone might’ve dubbed them one of the “40 Greatest One-Album Wonders,” but for the band—and anyone who’d had the album on repeat—it always felt like unfinished business. Now, they’re giving that story the ending it deserves.

Helmed by Chicago brothers Dave and Harry Trumfio, Pulsars were an eclectic throwback even in their time, seamlessly weaving ‘80s post-punk and synth-pop flavors into a sound that landed somewhere between dreamy nostalgia and razor-sharp modernity. They brought together a mix of their hometown’s gritty edge and the catchy charm of legends like Cheap Trick, pulling in comparisons to acts like The Pixies and The Cure.

But where Chicago’s alt scene often leaned hard and harsh, Pulsars veered towards something more atmospheric—like they were signaling to listeners that you could still have fun in a neon-lit haze.
