Kramer doesn’t know how to stop. Seriously. Shimmy-Disc’s restless mastermind just threw another log on the fire, and this time it’s the wild debut album from SQUANDERERS, ‘If a Body Meet a Body.’

Who are SQUANDERERS? Glad you asked. They’re the band you didn’t know you needed, crawling out of the chaos of 2024. It’s Wendy Eisenberg—an absolute beast on guitar—teaming up with David Grubbs, who somehow makes everything sound both wrong and perfect at the same time, and, of course, Kramer, dragging his bass around like it’s searching for buried treasure. These three got together last year as a duo project for Kramer’s ‘Rings of Saturn’ box set, but they’ve leveled up now with Eisenberg in the mix, shredding, bending, and warping reality itself.

The album? Pure live electricity. No rehearsals, no scripts, no backup plan. Just three players in a New York studio, ripping into the moment like it owed them money. What came out is this sprawling collection of improvisations, equal parts chaotic and serene. It’s music that doesn’t care if you “get it.” It’s just there, raw and alive, like an unfiltered thought clawing its way out of your head.

‘Theme for Viewers At Home’ is the centerpiece they’ve put forward, and it’s a trip. Layered, unnerving, and surprisingly beautiful, it’s paired with a short film by Kramer that pulls the track into some strange ambient dreamscape. Think less “music video” and more “what the hell did I just watch?”

The band don’t play it safe, and thank god for that. This isn’t a band that needs to prove anything to anyone. They’re out there doing their thing, untethered and unpredictable. ‘If a Body Meet a Body’ is their first step into the void, and who knows where they’re heading next—but you’re gonna want to follow them.
