‘Staircase’ by The Clamor
The Clamor, the multifaceted project led by Aaron Louis, returns with a visually striking stop-motion video for their latest single, ‘Staircase Stomp.’
The track takes a deep dive into the pull of self-destructive tendencies, urging listeners to confront and reconsider these darker impulses. It captures the feeling of internal conflict—the aching awareness of life’s voids and unfulfilled desires—while also expressing a struggle for belonging, solace, and connection.
Aaron Louis on the music video, “‘The Staircase Stomp’ music video by The Clamor brings together the meticulous stop-motion artistry of Jody McKee and the dynamic digital animation of Scotty Hull to explore themes of identity and inner conflict. With the animator’s haunting visuals, and lyrics that delve into psychological tension, the video blurs the lines between external chaos and internal struggles, offering what I hope is a meaningful reflection on the complexity of self-awareness.”
The single itself is a product of careful craftsmanship, with Aaron Louis overseeing its intricate production, tracking, and mixing at Brooklyn’s Studio G alongside Jeff Berner. The Clamor’s ensemble features a diverse range of talent, including Aaron Louis on vocals, guitar, and organ, joined by Gary Atturio on bass, Omer Leibovitz and Kirk Schoenherr on guitar, Aleida Gehrels on viola, Nicole Williams on cello, Shin-Yi Yang on guzheng, and Layton Weedeman on drums. The engineering crew—Ross Colombo and Leah Gutman—played crucial roles in the process, with mastering done by Alan Douches at West West Side Music in New York City. The cover art, capturing the essence of the song’s thematic depth, is by Bill Smith, renowned for his work with legends like Kate Bush, Genesis, The Cure, Led Zeppelin, and many more.
