Pollyanna Releases ‘Your Smile Is Cold’ Ahead of ‘Man Time’ Deluxe

French indie-folk artist Isabelle Casier, known for her project Pollyanna, is set to reissue her 2022 EP ‘Man Time’ in a deluxe edition this May via her label, Acoustic Kitty.

With a career spanning three albums and countless performances across Europe and beyond, Casier has built a reputation for her honest songwriting and warm voice.

The new edition of ‘Man Time’ pairs the original tracks with previously unreleased solo acoustic versions, recorded live at Cavern studio in Paris. Using just two ribbon microphones, a single take for guitar, and another for vocals, these recordings capture a vintage feel with only a few subtle additions—backing vocals and a delicate cello line.

Following the December release of ‘Four Seasons,’ ‘Your Smile Is Cold’ is the latest track to emerge from the reissue. Presented in two versions, the full-band take blends Latin-influenced guitar with a Yiddish-tinged fiddle, a trombone, and DIY percussion reminiscent of Tom Waits, while the stripped-down acoustic version stays true to Pollyanna’s intimate live sound, with just guitar, vocals, and a whisper of cello.

Lyrically, ‘Your Smile Is Cold’ explores the quiet unraveling of a friendship. “I once had a friend who lived in France but got bored after a while: she managed to find a job and move to NY. After a year, I visited her and was eager to hear stories about her new life over there… but she had nothing to tell me. She was just as bored as ever. We had lunch in a huge, noisy restaurant, but there was this awkward silence between us: the song is about that silence,” Casier explains.
