‘Sanctuary’ by Drazek Fuscaldo, featuring Mark Feldman, Tatsu Aoki, and George Marich: A Meditation in Motion
Exclusive album premiere of ‘Sanctuary,’ featuring Mark Feldman, Tatsu Aoki, and George Marich, slated for release on February 21, 2025.
‘Sanctuary’ is a jarring breath of restless improvisation. The collaboration between Drazek Fuscaldo, Mark Feldman, Tatsu Aoki, and George Marich feels like an audible exhale, where freeform chaos meets a tether to some unnamed grounding force. You can hear the tension between sound as structure and sound as liberation. This is far from the comfortable, the familiar…this is a soundscape where the act of listening demands a participation in the unraveling.
Drazek Fuscaldo—Przemyslaw Krys Drazek and Brent Fuscaldo—don’t work in “genres.” They play in the gaps, where improvisation can swing from an ecstatic, frenetic outpouring of textures to a quiet, meditative pause where time becomes its own broken, fragmented puzzle. Their previous work alongside Hamid Drake and other stalwarts have carved a reputation for boldly pushing sonic limits. Yet, in ‘Sanctuary,’ their spirit seems to sharpen, drawing on new threads of discipline while resisting the urge to ever fully tie down.
This is a record built on abrasion and invitation. A generous lack of definition pulls you in and keeps you out at the same time. It’s that fine line between cacophony and clarity, where each collision holds a deliberate weight. An hour of freedom that cuts to the bone, like the moment before a storm hits, the air thick with an urgent promise of release. An album that feels like sanctuary only because it dares to strip down everything else.
