Thee Rogue Telstars – ‘To The Moon’ / ‘Do The T.E.L.S.T.A.R.’ (2024)
There’s much that’s familiar here in the makeup of this three-piece Toronto-based trash/garage combo—from the Thee in the group’s moniker to the U.N.C.L.E.-style spelling of the neat B-side track.
But hey, what you really need to know is that this is yet another decidedly cool and lively double-sider from this Canadian label, which has already given us some great shakes over the years: represses of A Passing Fancy, Northwest Company, and a supremely heavy LP by Bent Wind among their ultra-fine booty.
As far as I’m aware, this also happens to be the debut single by Thee Rogue Telstars, and it contains plenty of rock’n’rollin’ fun, jacked up on high-velocity sounds, including rollicking bass and drums and the wired guitar exploits of one Paddy Beirne—aka Paddy Burn, who also plays in the great Ichi-Bons. Oh, and there are some suitably otherworldly-sounding crackles and whines flying in and out of orbit.
