Divus Drift into Dark Jazz Abstraction on Hypnotic New Album ‘Divus 3’
On their third album ‘Divus 3,’ Italian duo Divus — Luciano Lamanna on synths and electronics, and Luca T. Mai on baritone sax (also of Zu and Traum) — move far from their roots in techno and jazzcore.
Instead, they sink into something slow-burning and surreal. Think ambient textures, smoky doom jazz, and experimental sounds that feel like they’re creeping in from the edges of a dream. Out May 2 via Subsound Records, the album plays out like a long nocturnal drift — haunted, heavy, and strangely beautiful.

Lamanna builds thick electronic atmospheres that pulse like neon in the fog, while Mai’s saxophone moves between prayer and menace. There’s a cinematic mood to the whole thing, like a sci-fi noir set in a crumbling city where it’s always just past midnight. If you’ve ever wondered what Bohren & der Club of Gore jamming with Vangelis in a Roman warehouse might sound like, this is probably pretty close.
After their 2017 debut and its follow-up ‘Divus 2’ in 2020 (both on Boring Machines), Divus return with ‘Divus 3’ — out on limited glow-in-the-dark green vinyl and digital. It’s a record that doesn’t shout.
