Harmolodic League Brings Ornette Coleman’s Legacy to the Pacific Northwest
Dave Bryant, the legendary keyboardist and former member of Ornette Coleman’s Prime Time band, is bringing his new project, Harmolodic League, to the Pacific Northwest from April 4 to 12.
The tour is in support of his latest album ‘Wire and Bone,’ which takes inspiration from Bryant’s Third Thursdays concerts in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and brings them to life on stage with some exciting twists.
Harmolodic League features Bryant alongside other Prime Time alums, including electric bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, who helped shape the band’s sound in the ’70s, and drummer James Kamal Jones, who played on Prime Time’s Tone Dialing. Saxophonist Neil Leonard rounds out the core band, adding his own live-electronics flair to the mix. The tour will also see some killer local collaborations, with rhythm section heroes King Dahl (bass) and Jerry Steinhilber (drums) joining the band in Bellingham, North Bend, Seattle, and Vancouver.
There’s also a special show in Seattle on April 7 at The Chapel Space, where saxophonist Steve Treseler will join the group and debut a “videodance” by Clara Gibson Maxwell. On April 9, the band will head to Western Washington University for a panel discussing Ornette Coleman’s Harmolodics—his game-changing approach to music that prioritizes personal expression above all else.
If you’re into mind-expanding jazz, Bryant and Harmolodic League are bringing the heat.
