Talulah Paisley Announces Debut LP ‘Fool’ with New Single ‘What’s It Like?’ and Quirky Video
Lyris Faron, the Brooklyn-based artist behind the experimental rock project Talulah Paisley, is as quirky as she is talented.
You might know her from her time fronting T-Rextasy (Father/Daughter) or Sloppy Jane (Dead Oceans), or from sharing the stage with artists like Frankie Cosmos and Water From Your Eyes. But after a decade of recording lo-fi gems in her bedroom and sharing them on Bandcamp, she’s finally ready to drop her first studio album, ‘Fool,’ on June 11th via The People’s Coalition of Tandy. The album is a rock concept piece, with Faron playing nearly 15 instruments and collaborating with some talented friends.

Today, Talulah Paisley is sharing the first single from ‘Fool,’ ‘What’s It Like?,’ a sweet and introspective track about the passage of time and the changes it brings. Faron reflects on things like what it would be like “flying on business from LA to New York City” or “building a lifetime with someone you love.” It’s a song full of curiosity about the future and all the unknowns ahead.
Faron explains, “I wrote this song when I was about to graduate from college and felt all this pressure—what if I do nothing with my life? What if I’m a waste? What if I don’t make any impact?” She played and sang everything on the track, except for the whistle, which was contributed by her bandmate Athena from Awksymoron. “It was also the first time I ever recorded drums,” Faron adds.
For the music video, Faron drew inspiration from her habit of picking up little things on the street in NYC—playing cards, dice, plastic neon barrettes—and seeing them as little bits of magic. She painted the bike, the helmet, and spray-painted the roses, even crafting the costume herself. The look is inspired by the brave lady lion tamers of the circus, who took big risks for the sake of spectacle, much like Faron’s approach to her art.
