Tuff Sunshine’s ‘Elevator Eyes’ Video Takes You Inside the ‘Vanity Matrix’

Tuff Sunshine, the Brooklyn-based project led by Johnny Leitera, unveils the video for their latest single, ‘Elevator Eyes,’ marking a new chapter in their ever-evolving sound.

A blend of emotive indie, soul-infused funk, and postpunk’s edge, the track reflects the band’s unique ability to transform personal introspection into captivating music. The video, out today, complements the song’s surreal mood with disorienting visuals that mirror the themes of ‘Vanity Matrix,’ their upcoming album.

Since 2012, Leitera has steered Tuff Sunshine through numerous collaborations, with musicians like Linda Pitmon (The Baseball Project) and Turner Stough (Shilpa Ray) joining him on stage and in the studio. Despite the shifting lineup, Leitera’s writing and production remain the core of the project. Singles like ‘Legwork’ and ‘Thank the Pilot’ have set the stage for ‘Vanity Matrix,’ which explores the contradictions of digital culture and aging in public.

The album’s title track sets the tone, while ‘I Will Meet You At The Bell’ blends literal and metaphorical references, exploring relationships with an air of ambiguity. ‘Elevator Eyes’ is a perfect example of Tuff Sunshine’s ability to craft emotionally charged, offbeat anthems, combining reflective lyricism with adventurous arrangements.
